December 2004 Bay View Compass Editorial
Dear Bay View Compass Readers,
I'd like to first wish you and your families a very happy holiday season. Here at the County Board we have just adopted our Milwaukee County Budget for 2005. As I explained in last month's issue, I was able to ensure that the $ 2 million Phase II funding for the South Shore Bike Trail and Shoreline Protection Project was appropriated. Construction is set to begin on this project in Spring of 2005. I am happy to inform you that there are also nearly no cuts being made to our Milwaukee County Parks and the Milwaukee County Transit System, two services which I regularly receive the most input on.
In addition to the budget adoption, I have also been working on the passage of the PERC, or the Park East Redevelopment Compact, which I helped co-sponsor. This legislation passed through the Economic and Community Development Committee, of which I am a member and will go to the full County Board on December 16, 2004. This legislation concerns the 16 acres of land in the Park East, which the County owns. It ensures that development in that area will bring with it family-supporting jobs and workforce housing. It is a way that everyone in our community will benefit from publicly-supported developments.
Lastly, the Lakefront Development Advisory Commission had it's first meeting in November to look at various projects being proposed on our Lakefront. I sponsored legislation which ensured Bay View's Lakefront would also be covered and well-represented on this Commission. We have two members on the Commission who reside in Bay View to ensure our voices are heard during this process. Once again, I wish the residents of District 4 a Happy Holiday Season and as always, feel free to contact my office at 414-278-4232 with any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic
