September 2005 Bay View Compass Editorial
Dear Bay View Compass Readers,
The month of September is one full of positive events in our neighborhood. September 10th from 10:00am-4:00pm is the Bay View Homes Tour which benefits the Bay View Community Center. Also on September 17th from 11:00am-10:00pm the 2nd Annual Bay View Bash will take place on Kinnickinnic Avenue between Potter and Clement Avenues. I hope you can take part in the many events going on in Bay View this month.
Unfortunately, for states in the Gulf Coast it has been the most trying times for people living there through Hurricane Katrina. My office has received many phone calls from the good people of the 4th District wondering what we can do to help our fellow Americans hurt by Hurricane Katrina. Wisconsin's relief efforts are being coordinated through Wisconsin Emergency Management and the American Red Cross. On Labor Day Governor Doyle along with representatives from local government announced that about a thousand evacuees will be housed at the Youth Center at State Fair Park and the South Milwaukee Community Center. This is a coordinated effort between the State, Milwaukee County, and the City of Milwaukee.
You can do a number of things to help these and other evacuees across the country. If you are interested in traveling to Louisiana, opening your own home to a displaced family or donating a service please log onto Wisconsin Emergency Management's website at http://emergencymanagement.wi.gov/. If you would like to make any type of donation please contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW, or visit Governor Doyle's webpage at http://www.wisgov.state.wi.us/ for a list of many organizations to choose from. Thank you for your kindness and if you have any questions or comments feel free to call my office at 278-4232.
