Dear Bay View Compass Readers,

I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!! I would also like to share a few of the initiatives I will be working on this year in Milwaukee County and hope that you will call my office and let me know what you would like to see done in our neighborhood as well.

As you know, the Milwaukee County Board approved the demolition of the Courthouse Annex a couple of months ago and has since been debating about what to do over replacement parking in the area. I am hopeful that with being appointed to the Courthouse Complex Master Plan Committee I will be able to offer some insight in the process of making the Courthouse Complex a more user-friendly and efficient place for employees and visitors.

 In addition, this past year has proven difficult for some of the public-private partnerships that exist in Milwaukee County Government. I am hopeful that the financial situation of our Milwaukee Public Museum will improve and the public will regain trust in this institution. As a policy-maker, we need to take a closer look at these types of partnerships and learn from this experience that more accountability is needed, especially when there is such a large public investment and service involved like that of cultural arts.

 With decreasing aid from the State involving State mandates we are required to provide such as Health and Human Services and our County Courts System, we will have to be extremely creative in budgeting this year. My goal is to make sure that the county services we all enjoy are preserved so that we may still maintain a high quality of life in our neighborhood.

 Lastly, I am anxious to see development take place on the two parcels of land the County has sold where the former Park East freeway once stood. The major family-supporting job creation that will take place is exactly what our County needs and I look forward to the development of the remaining land on that site. Please don't forget about the Bay View Winter Fun Festival which takes place on Sunday February 12, 2006 from 1:00-4:00pm at the South Shore Pavilion. I will be in attendance along with other local elected officials, civic organizations, neighbors, and plenty of fun and entertainment.
